MJL's Recruiting Tips

So… you wanted help with recruiting?
Well, you came to the right place. I'll share a few pointers over recruiting that I've learned, in the time I've been in NRN.
Here's my Golden Rules of recruiting which you break at your peril.

1. Never lie to a recruit. (Never lie anyway)
2. Always be friendly. You'll get no recruits by pretyping "Hello, go to www.aguk.org and sign up now" type stuff. Be personal, say "How are you" and be sympathetic If they are unhappy, or glad if they are happy.
3. In smaller, less active games like XWA, title your room something like "Want to join us?" In more active games, you can title the room practically anything, even "NRN Recruiting"
4. If a recruit seems eager to play before anything, play first. Then try to recruit them.
5. If recruiting, say in Jedi Knight, make sure they sign up to Ground Forces too!
6. Don't speak publicly of them as "recruits". This makes people think they are being herded or mass-recruited. If you must say "recruits" to another NRN member, use a ZM or private chat.

Basic Strategies

· Pretype the instructions. Make them informative but short. If you aren't very good at doing this stuff, use these instructions.

To join the NRN. Go to www.aguk.org/nrn and click Main, then Join NRN. Fill in this form. Put (your name) as your recruiter and choose any squad except Rogue. Next, go to www.battlestats.com and sign up there too. Remember to request to join NRN there too. (Club ID 7)

Also use the other sites, such as Command Group and Ground Forces, if recruiting in games other than space combat.

· For those unsure if they want to join, leave them a copy of the instructions. Approx. ¼ of recruits who choose not to join immediately will go back and join later.

· If they say "I'm not good enough" explain about the Academy.

Advanced Tips

· Use Private Chats to instruct them more fully. This removes chat-clutter.

· He who speaks of Newbies will not get any recruits.

· Some recruits will join every clan recruiting room one at a time and join them all. Be careful.

· Make sure they change their Zone Name correctly! I've seen dozens of NRN_Players and NRN_R_Players that I can't stress this enough!

· If they are rude, hacking or otherwise CoC breaking, don't bother with them. The Fleet is a warm and caring environment, but it can't be so with some pilots going around insulting other clans.

That's just a few pointers from me,
